What is the e-TEP?
The e-TEP (Electronic Test of English Proficiency) is an English test run by ÖSYM. You take it on a computer at a test centre. It tests reading, listening, speaking and writing, and it takes about two and a half hours. Each skill gets a score out of 30, so the highest total is 120.

How does the practice test work?
You can choose exam mode or study mode. Exam mode works like the real test: the clock runs and you only hear each recording once. Study mode is for learning. You see the right answer after each question, and you can listen again and read the transcript.
Your answers are saved in your browser, so you can stop and continue later. When you finish, you get a score report with an estimated level and an explanation for every question.

Is this site free?
Yes, it is free for now. You don't need to sign up or pay. What's included and what's coming next ›
Are these real e-TEP questions?
No. All the texts, recordings and questions were written for this site. The question types, the timing and the order of the sections follow ÖSYM's official description of the exam.
Will my score here be the same as my real score?
Probably not exactly. For reading and listening, your number of correct answers gives you a good idea. For speaking and writing you score yourself, so try to be honest (and a bit strict!).
Who are the speakers in the recordings?
The recordings use natural-sounding computer voices with American and British accents, like the mix of accents in the real exam. We plan to add recordings with real speakers later.
Do you save my answers?
Only in your own browser. Nothing is sent to us. This also means your progress stays on the device and browser you used. If you start on a lab computer and continue on your phone, you will start again.
