About the e-TEP
The e-TEP (Electronic Test of English Proficiency) is ÖSYM's English test. It tests all four skills and you take it on a computer at a test centre. The whole exam takes about two and a half hours.
Parts of the exam
| Part | Time | What you do |

| Listening | ~30 min | 30 questions in 5 sections. You hear each recording once, but you get time to read the questions first. You can't go back. |
| Speaking | ~12 min | A warm-up question (no score), two questions about your own opinions and experience, and one task where you watch a short video, summarise it and give your view. You get time to prepare. Speaking tips › |

Scores and levels
Each skill gets a score from 0 to 30, so the total is out of 120. Two raters mark your speaking and writing, using four criteria. These are the scores you need for each level:
| Level | Reading | Listening | Speaking | Writing | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| B1 | 9 | 12 | 15 | 14 | 50 |
| B2 | 16 | 18 | 20 | 20 | 74 |
| C1 | 23 | 24 | 25 | 26 | 98 |

Tips for exam day
- You get a draft sheet for the whole exam. Use it for notes in the listening part.
- In the speaking part, other people in the room speak at the same time. It helps to practise at home with some noise around you.
- You type your writing on a keyboard, so practise typing in English before the exam.
- In reading, don't spend more than about 3 minutes on one question. Leave it and come back later.
